Leadership in social work: building on strengths

About this session

This interactive panel session looks at the challenges and opportunities for leaders from children’s and adult social work and the private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sector.

Practice leaders will:

• reflect on their role and experience
• consider what being a strengths-based leader means to them
• think about the role of leaders in promoting equality and inclusion
• discuss how to support teams to manage adversity
• discuss leadership in the context of inter-agency and inter-professional working

The panel will include contributions from academics from the University of Birmingham, a service user contributor with experience of coproduction, practice leaders from children’s and adult social work and the PVI sector, and colleagues from the Social Care Institute for Excellence.

Attendees will have the opportunity, via interactive online tools, to explore key themes and issues raised in the discussion. There will be an opportunity to post questions for response and discussion by the panel.

The session is relevant to all existing and aspiring social work and social care leaders, people with lived experience, social work students, employers of social workers, people with a policy interest in social work leadership, and all other stakeholders.
