About this session

A year ago, we were expecting a new Mental Health Bill and new mental capacity legislation. Although neither of these big changes materialised in 2023, there has been plenty of work going on to help adult and mental health social workers meet the challenges they face.

Jason Brandon, mental health lead at the Office of the Chief Social Worker, will bring us the headlines from developments at the Department of Health and Social Care, and talk about work he’s leading to bolster support for adult mental health social workers in the NHS among others.

Paul Peros, policy manager for mental health, mental capacity and specialist regulation at Social Work England, will reflect on the regulator’s growing role in creating a supportive regulatory framework around both specialist courses and practising Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) and Best interests Assessors.

Hannah and Sarah, co-chairs for the Adult PSW Network, will bring updates on the work that take place in local authorities in 2024.
