Continuing professional development (CPD)

Continuing professional development (CPD) describes the reflection and learning activities which social workers undertake and record throughout their career to improve their practice and keep it up to date.

As part of our recently published registration rules, social workers have to undertake CPD to maintain their registration. Standard 4 of our new professional standards also outlines the areas of CPD that social workers should consider when reflecting on their learning activities.

To support our rules and standards, we have put together a proposal with more detail on the process for how professionals should carry out and record their CPD. We are sharing these proposals with you so you can have your say.
